It’s MY Year Review from the OPI Miss Universe Collection

I am so excited!  I dropped into Ricky’s today on my lunch break and the first thing I saw was the brand new OPI collection for August – a collaboration with Miss Universe.  The girl working there informed me that they had just come in yesterday.   Squee!  The polishes are sassy and fun, and I ended up taking three of the four home.

And you know that I started swatching immediately.  See my #1 polish pick from this collection after the jump.

It’s MY Year

I am absolutely swooning over this beauty.  IMO it’s the real standout of Miss Universe.  It’s MY Year is described as an “iridescent pink” but I’d call it more of a plum, with heaps of copper and gold microglitter lending it a duochrome look.

It applied beautifully.  I used two coats but one would probably be OK if you’re in a hurry.  The duochrome effect helps mask that annoying VNL.  Here are about 3,568 pictures that I took because I was so smitten.

These are in natural light

With flash the plum base really pops.  You can also see how the nail surface is slightly pitted due to the microglitter.  A coat of Seche Vite or similar will smooth that out.

And just for fun, here’s a comparison of It’s MY Year with China Glaze Awakening.  Clearly they’re pretty different, although they’re both plums with gold duochrome, n’est ce pas?

I also bought Crown Me Already! (a thick, shiny silver glitter) and Swimsuit… Nailed It! (an electric, metallic blue).  They are all swatched but I should probably be a responsible adult and take care of some non-blog responsibilities before I post them.

Has anyone else checked out the Miss Universe polishes?

I just got It’s MY Year yesterday and I have to say I’m in love! It’s fabulous. The plum with a golden shin to it. It’s so fun!

  2. […] some major gold foil, giving it a strong duochrome effect.  This seems to be a close relative to OPI It’s My Year, although it looks like the gold in RTW is much warmer and it could have a darker plum/red base.  […]
