{"id":725,"date":"2011-02-27T15:04:48","date_gmt":"2011-02-27T20:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/gearbunny.net\/?p=725"},"modified":"2011-02-27T15:04:48","modified_gmt":"2011-02-27T20:04:48","slug":"oh-sugar-sugar-skull","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/digitalemily.com\/gearbunny\/jewelry\/oh-sugar-sugar-skull\/","title":{"rendered":"Oh, Sugar Sugar (Skull)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few months into the bitter chill of winter and I never want to see my heavy tweed coat again.\u00a0 I fantasize about wrapping it in plastic and banishing to the back of my closet for a solid 6 or 8 months!\u00a0 (Probably wishful thinking, but a girl can dream.)\u00a0 Today, the sun is shining, there&#8217;s a hint of warmth in the air, and I&#8217;m itching to break out my spring clothes.\u00a0 In celebration of spring I thought I&#8217;d share some colorful, sweet treasuries with you.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Sweet Sugar Skulls<\/h2>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a delightful collection of grinning handmade sugar skulls.\u00a0 You&#8217;ll find everything from punky baby accessories to jewelry and home decor here.\u00a0 Thanks, GracieBonesBoutique, for including my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etsy.com\/listing\/59125372\/marigold-sugar-skull-cha-cha-necklace\" target=\"_blank\">Marigold Sugar Skull Cha-Cha Necklace<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.etsy.com\/listing\/59125372\/marigold-sugar-skull-cha-cha-necklace\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-726\" title=\"Polymer Clay Sugar Skull with Flowers\" src=\"http:\/\/digitalemily.com\/gearbunny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/marigold-suga-skull-430x460.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"319\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I created a few sugar skull pieces in October in honor of Dia de Los Muertos.\u00a0 I love the colors and images associated with this Mexican holiday.\u00a0 What a joyous contrast with melancholy Western conceptions of death &#8211; black, morbid, dark, eternal, foreboding.\u00a0 I think I like the idea of celebrating our dead with flowers, feasting, costumes, and parades much better.\u00a0 I used a gorgeous golden orange clay for this skull because marigold is a very significant color in Day of the Dead celebrations.\u00a0 Marigolds are thought to be the &#8220;flower of the dead.&#8221;\u00a0 Since their scent and color is believed to attract spirits, marigold petals are used to mark crosses and paths to show them the way.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.etsy.com\/treasury\/4cc9d487607b6d912db72412\/sweet-sugar-skulls\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-727\" title=\"Etsy Treasury Collection Sugar Skulls Handmade Jewelry and Accessories\" src=\"http:\/\/digitalemily.com\/gearbunny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/Sweet-sugar-skulls-treasury-430x287.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"265\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Paint Me Punk<\/h2>\n<p>DragonsWood has curated a rockin&#8217; collection of neon-bright accessories fit for a punk princess.\u00a0 She was kind enough to include my <a href=\"http:\/\/www.etsy.com\/listing\/59122891\/day-of-the-dead-bracelet-3-bright-and?ref=tre-4ce5eaa614256d911fe57913-4\" target=\"_blank\">Day of the Dead Bracelet #3<\/a> &#8211; thank you!\u00a0 This particular bracelet has been sold, but I have more in the works.\u00a0 Contact me if you&#8217;d like a custom Day of the Dead Bracelet of your own.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.etsy.com\/listing\/59122891\/day-of-the-dead-bracelet-3-bright-and\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-735\" title=\"Gearbunny Dia de Los Muertos Bracelet Skull and Beads\" src=\"http:\/\/digitalemily.com\/gearbunny\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/02\/dayofthedead-brightcolorful-bracelet.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"251\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">I began with my own handmade polymer clay skull and bones.
