Front Line Assembly Show Review

On Thursday I went to Nation to see DJ? Acucrack, Stromkern, Conjure One, and Front Line Assembly. I was super hyped for the show. Even though I don’t adore all their new material, they hold a special place in my heart. They were one of the first industrial bands I ever heard. Hunching by my radio and listening to “Barcode” on Zoltar’s Mutant Dance Party is one of my earliest industrial memories 🙂

The show didn’t disappoint! I hadn’t heard much DJ? Acucrack before and wasn’t expecting much. But they were full of energy and had a great stage presence. I really dug their dark and reckless drum n bass. At one point the guy yelled out, “Hey Alchemy, there’s a suggestion box by the stage if you have any ideas for next time. Oh wait, there won’t be a next time!” Aw… funny but sad. Stromkern was eh, Conjure One was eh, and FLA fucking kicked ass! I was hoping to hear more old jams, but it was still great. “Plasticity” and “Biomechanic” were some of the highlights. I danced a ton and shrieked like a little girl at Christmas. Best performance I’ve seen in a long time.

After the show I had a mind to say hello to Bill Leeb, but he was surrounded by a flock of 15 year old girls. They weren’t even talking to him – they were just making him pose for 45565 self-indulgent pictures. WTF? He seemed really bored with the whole ordeal but they just wouldn’t go away. Finally I gave up. Probably no big loss, since I hear he’s not the sweetest guy. Now I’m hearing rumors that he might be cancelling the rest of the tour, but I don’t know if that’s true.
