American Apparel Hunter + Sinful Colors Call You Later glitter

Hunter by American Apparel is a medium hunter green creme.  Although I’m not a fan of AA’s thin, skimpy brush, it did apply this polish evenly in two coats.  It dries to a glossy finish and tends to look almost black indoors.

I have a lot of untried Sinful Colors glitters that I’ve been itching to bust out, so I painted Call You Later on top.  It’s a clear base packed with different sizes of fine golden olive and emerald green glitter.

It works like a dream over Hunter’s dark base.  Mmm, green sparklies.

This is one coat – all that’s really needed for an application like this, because the glitter is so dense.  I loved the depth and interest it added!  Since the glitter is finely textured this wasn’t much of a problem to take off – a nice bonus since the hassle of removing glitters can deter me from wearing them.  I just used a cotton ball and my regular non-acetone Cutex nail polish remover.

Enjoy!

Sally Hansen Plum’s the Word + Pure Ice Busted

This manicure started off as messing around and ended up mesmerizing!  I’m sure people were wondering what the heck was wrong with me when I kept tilting my hands at different angles and admiring my nails.  Duochrome will do that to ya.  I started out with Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Plum’s the Word.  It’s a creme muted plum that leans more towards brown than purple.  Application was no problem, and I love this formula’s thick brush!  I can pretty much do each nail in two swipes (one for the pinky).  The rounded tip also helps me get closer to somewhat approximating a clean gap – something that I still need a lot more practice with!  Two coats provided a good opaque base color, I felt like it needed a bit more razzle dazzle.  So I layered it with two coats of Pure Ice Busted.  In the bottle this polish looks like a sheer, watery lilac with pink and gold shimmer.  On top of the Plum’s the Word it looked even more stunning.

These pix were taken after 2 days so you can see a bit of normal tip wear.

Heeey, nice duochrome.

This one really shows the gold and pink shift over the plum base.

Artificial light

Busted is one of those polishes that’s pretty on its own but really comes to life when layered.  I can’t wait to try it with some different base colors!

It’s MY Year Review from the OPI Miss Universe Collection

I am so excited!  I dropped into Ricky’s today on my lunch break and the first thing I saw was the brand new OPI collection for August – a collaboration with Miss Universe.  The girl working there informed me that they had just come in yesterday.   Squee!  The polishes are sassy and fun, and I ended up taking three of the four home.

And you know that I started swatching immediately.  See my #1 polish pick from this collection after the jump.
